Harlem renaissance poem analysis

             In I, too, sing America there is a lot of imagery even though t is such a short poem. This poem has a lot of depth for how short it is. In the poem Hughes talks about the kitchen. By how he talks about it, it seems like a very bad place; A place that nobody would want to be in by choice. The kitchen is a place for the help and people who are not wanted or welcome at the table. The speaker of the poem knows that it is a bad place but he goes without a fight because he knows his day will come when he sits at the table with the company.

             There are a lot of different sound devices in this poem. One example of alliteration is “company comes” because it uses the sound C twice in a row. This enhances the poem because it puts emphasis on the fact that he only eats in the kitchen when there is company; it puts focus on that statement. There is a lot of repetition in the poem. The main stanza is basically repeated but with a different beginning. This repetition helps the story.

             The whole poem is a metaphor for the oppression of African Americans during the Harlem renaissance. The speaker is oppressed by having to eat in the kitchen but he knows that his day will come when he gets to eat at the table. The table is a symbol for society, that one day he will be able to go in public and not be looked down upon. He knows that the day will come and now he is waiting, getting strong and laughing because he knows what is going to happen.  

I chose lady gaga as a modern transcendentalist because she values imagination, has a strong individualism and she has an appreciation for nature.
She fits the profile of a person who values imagination because she is always wearing the craziest outfits and she always encourages people to be themselves. She herself has a very large imagination and is a very creative person I have ever seen. She also holds creativity and imagination over logic and reason because she wore a dress of meat. That is something that is very unreasonable and illogical.
She has a very strong individualism and a non-conformist. You can tell by her outfits and by her personality. You can also tell that she has a strong non-conformist personality because of her music, she doesn't care about what she says in her music, and she doesn't care if it offends people. 
she also has an appreciation for nature because her outfits usually have a message behind them, and most of the time the message has to do with nature or helping nature in some way. she tries to send a good message and a message that will usually help people. All around Lady Gaga is definitely a modern transcendentalist.

Why is poetry important or not important to learn?

Poetry is a good thing to learn in school even though I dislike poetry a lot. It's a good thing to learn about because it teaches us about figurative language and different tones. It helps us understand the English language. It also helps us understand why poets use certain words and phrases. I really don't like poetry and I don't get why poets can't write out what they really mean instead of making us figure it out.

american dream

         Personally, the American Dream is about taking chances to try and make it big and become successful. It is about being able to come from nothing and be able to do what you dream about doing. In my future I want to be happy with a good job and a family.
         The cultural norm is about being wealthy and successful. The whole dream is about striving for perfection. if you have a big house and are wealthy them according to some people you are living to dream but if you have those things you always want something bigger and better. The whole thing is very superficial and about wanting more, and it can also become very greedy. The American Dream can never be reached because once you have a part of it you always want more, it is a never ending circle.
